Anyway, I did a little bit of work in Louisiana back in the good ol' days, and I learned a thing or two about its politics.

On the surface, it is the most corrupt state in the union. But they will tell you it's the least corrupt because, unlike all the others who lie, deny and stand-by, in Louisiana they make no bones about it- they are "openly" corrupt and, as such, that makes them more "honest."

I don't know if the charges against the Hon. Representative Jefferson are true, obviously (NOR DOES ANYONE ELSE AT THIS POINT). But, let's assume they are. I mean, a politician in Louisiana has $90K in his freezer.....AND THIS IS WRONG BECAUSE........????????

Wouldn't you like to take a peak through all their freezers? The fact is, I was taught a long time ago (and I believe it to be true) that when a Louisiana politician gets into ethics problems, it's not the actual act that he/she did that causes the problem; it's the fact that he/she didn't share the love. You have to redistribute the graft among the graftees, and if you don't, that's when they turn on you.

My guess is, my man thought he'd pocket some deal on the side. Can't do it, and now he's in trouble.

They'll play the race card in this one, and first glance you can see why; their argument will be, well, there's all these corrupt white politicians in Louisiana that get off scot-free, why are they targeting the black guy? But I'm sorry, you've gotta spread the love and I'm guessing that's not what occurred here.

Good to see that no matter what, coruption knows how to find it's way into the mix.

As for the money in the freezer, havent you ever heard of cold cash? LOL!

I'm late to this party (we've been gleefully contributing to global warming these past few weeks -- over 3000 miles since 5/24), but I'm really not sure why this is directed towards me.

The corruption in that state knows no bounds. I was in Metairie one day and I hailed a passing cab to take me to the airport. As we were driving I was making conversation with him, and tells me I'm his first airport pick-up of the week. I was suprised, since I figured the airport would be their biggest source of patrons.

He proceeds to tell me that if you want the dispatcher to call you on airport fares, you have to pay him a little "tribute," if you will. He was telling me he absolutely refused to do that, hence he never got any calls. The only reason he got me was because I hailed him on the street.

I got to me all kinds of interesting people in Louisiana. I actually felt like I was normal and geeky when I was down there (unlike up here in Cincinnati, where I come off as intimidating and studley)

Oh, I know all about their culture. I was visiting with an insured one time. He was a nice enough guy, I suppose, but he probably didn't chart too high on the civility scale. We were just standing around, shooting the breeze, and he yells "Come here, (N-word, I'll be polite here)." Sure enough, here comes this dog, jet black in color, and sure enough, the dog's name was the N-word. Never thought I'd long for Rover, Fido or Sparky.

Oh but it gets better. He kept referring to this "coon-ass." I found it odd that he'd have any black employees, seeing as he wasn't coming off as the most progressive person I'd ever met. Turns out he didn't, all his employees were white, and a "coon-ass" was, in fact, a white person. SHOWS YOU WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW......
